Swedish-born violinist and vocalist Rebecca Karlen has a Master of Music Research from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (2022).
She is an active freelance musician, working in diverse musical contexts as both a violinist and a singer. Aside from studying classical violin performance in both Stockholm and at UQ, she was also awarded a grant for a short study trip to Buenos Aires in 2016 to study tango music on the violin and singing. She has also studied Swedish traditional music.
Rebecca is particularly active with her own band Estampa, touring in 2021, and releasing a second album with this band in 2021. Estampa has also been selected to be Musica Viva featured artists in 2024.
Her wide-ranging work as a freelance musician includes working with the QLD Pops Orchestra, Topology, the Australian Pops Orchestra, Kooralbyn, Mirusia, the Australian Session Orchestra, and for several different performer agencies, such as Bentley’s Agency, Angelstrings, and the Queensland Performers Agency. This includes performances at QPAC, the Brisbane Jazz Festival, Woodford Festival, Le Festival, the Empire Theatre, the Brolga Theatre, Suncorp Stadium, the Tanks Art Centre, and the Cairns Entertainment Centre.
